In a bold and unconventional move, the Denver Nuggets fired head coach Michael Malone and general manager Calvin Booth just three games before the end of the regular season. This decision, initially met with skepticism, has yielded immediate positive results, as the Nuggets secured a commanding 120-101 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 7 of their first-round playoff series.



The Nuggets' dominant performance in Game 7 was characterized by a balanced offensive attack and stifling defense. Aaron Gordon led the team with 22 points, while Christian Braun contributed 21. Nikola Jokic, the team's cornerstone, narrowly missed a triple-double, recording 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists. Denver's decisive 37-21 run in the second quarter set the tone for the remainder of the game, with the lead expanding to as much as 35 points.




The decision to dismiss Malone and Booth was not made lightly. Team president Josh Kroenke revealed that the firings were the culmination of months of internal discord, particularly between Malone and Booth, whose differing philosophies on player development created a toxic environment. Kroenke emphasized the need to "shake this tree" to rejuvenate the team's morale and performance ahead of the playoffs.

Under his guidance, the team has recaptured the cohesion and energy reminiscent of their 2023 championship run.



Looking ahead, the Nuggets are set to face the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference semifinals. Game 1 is scheduled for Monday in Oklahoma City. The team's recent turnaround has not only salvaged their season but also reignited hopes for another deep playoff run.
